Skye, the traveling mouse, is from the Isle of Skye in Scotland. She loves the sea, small towns, cows, ferries, and the promise of adventure. While she loved Skye, she was getting bored, and felt like she had explored every bit. She met Kate one day, and the two of them set off to explore the world.

kateKate started traveling at the age of six weeks, and had her first international travel experience at the age of two. She traveled internationally again with her family in 1997, and in 2005 took a semester out of university for a six month walkabout. Amazed at the life changing power of travel, and bitten by a serious case of wanderlust, she has been traveling by herself and with others as much as possible since then. Her other passion is theatre, and after working and performing a piece of travel stories in Edinburgh in 2008, she realized the importance not only of travel, but of telling one’s stories. She is thrilled to travel with Skye, the traveling mouse, and to try to bring stories to life. While traveling, she works as a freelance writer, theater technician, storyteller, and photographer.

Why this is important?

Skye and Kate believe that travel is a life changing experience. It makes people more independent and more aware of the connections of a larger world and the need to reach out to people in that word. Travel can inspire, help us to find our sense of self, and meet amazing new people. So we want to encourage everyone to travel. We know that not everyone is as lucky to travel as much as we are, but we believe that travel begins when you step out your door into the unknown, even if that unknown is a new city, a new part of town, or a stranger’s house. Everyone has travel stories, but most of us never share them because we are too self conscious or think no one will be interested. But learning to tell your story, and believing in the importance of your story, is also part of the journey. We hope that you will read our stories, and tell us your own, and then step out your door into the unknown, travel, and make more stories.
